This has to be one of my favorite FUNdrasiers, who wouldn't want to tape a principal or teacher to the wall? When I came across this in a PTO Facebook group I knew this was something we'd want to do in my district. A duct tape fundraiser brings the whole school together, everyone gets excited over it.
Here is what you need
If you've been following Macaroni Kid for a while you know we love Duct Tape and all the cute designs. Never did I think to use that Duct Tape to tape my son's teacher to the wall. Some Supplies that you'll need are:
- Duct tape! There are so many different types. Get both wide and narrow, and get lots of cool designs
- Scissors. Buy more than one pair. I'd recommend getting at least one pair for each volunteer you have
- Disposable painters jumpsuit.
- A stool.
- Volunteers. This event has a lot of moving pieces. You'll need parent volunteers to keep the strips of tape cut for participants and then you'll need either teacher or principal volunteering to be taped to the wall.
- Determine how much you'll charge per strip of tape. I suggest cutting 3 separate lengths and determine your price based on the length of the tape.
Prepare your Area, Tape and Volunteer
- You will want to pick the wall you're going to stick your willing volunteer too. I'd recommend trying a few spots. You may even want to do a trial run and tape something heavy to the wall to make sure it will stick.
- The stool. Eventually, you will pull the stool out from under your volunteer but you'll want to make sure it sturdy and supportive.
- Make sure your volunteer is covered head to toe best to wear a painters jumpsuit.
- Have water nearby for your principal or teacher that is stuck to the wall they will get hot!
- Cut a few dozen strips of tape ahead of time. You'll need at least 3ft strips to go across the body, you'll likely want to determine just how big you'll need ahead of time.
Other Tips and Tricks
- Allow 15-20 minutes to tape your teacher or principal to the wall.
- Once you’ve completely covered your volunteer in a few layers of tape, do a quick test to see if the tape will hold him to the wall.. Have two people, one on each side, hold the person to the wall while a third person slowly pulls out the stool. If the person starts to slide down, put the stool back and add more tape!
- It usually works best to ask the principal to be your duct-tape volunteer so the entire school can be involved.
- Set a per-piece price for the fundraiser of $1 or whatever you think will work for your school.
- As with other fundraising efforts, plan to promote it heavily and let your community know what you will do with the funds raised.
- This could also be done as a celebration for hitting a fundraising goal! IE: Hit our goal of $20,000 and tape the principal!
