What was the moment in your life that inspired you to start your business?
I had been working for over 20 years in corporate recruiting for global companies and found that the more my role expanded and the more my team grew, I had less and less time to focus on the dedicated mentoring and coaching of my direct reports that I loved to do. When I realized that I was working more with spreadsheets and numbers instead of people, I knew it was time for a change.
But, if I was going to make a change at that stage of my career, it was "go big or go home." So I went back to NYU for my Executive Coaching certification (I received my Master's in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from there), became Certified in Everything DiSC, and launched my business all at the same time.
I'm not very good at doing things slowly or finishing one thing before starting another. Thankfully it worked out for me!
Is there a woman in business that inspires you?
Sallie Krawcheck of Ellevate Network. She believes in the positive impact of women in business and Ellevate Network's mission is to help women advance in the workplace, both for themselves and the greater good. Sallie strives to change the culture of business from the inside out - by investing in women.
Where do you see your business in the next year? In the next five years? The next ten years?
Most of my work is conducted with individual private clients focused on enhancing their careers though leadership development, improved communication skills, and better management of their teams. I support other clients with their career transitions, job search strategies, personal branding techniques and help them learn how to network with confidence.
What are the biggest issues for running this business?
The biggest issue is that I am a solopreneur and doing everything myself. Coaching, networking, marketing, writing, selling, invoicing... all while trying to grow my business and take care of my family! I know how lucky I am to have such a supportive family and group of friends to keep me going.
I live by my schedule and keep all of my personal and business commitments on one calendar. Managing my time is crucial.
