Sponsored Review: Crizal for Kids Lenses

By Rachel Fenty July 15, 2015
I knew the day was coming I just was in denial so when the dreaded letter came home from school I just hung my head and sighed. Andrew needs glasses. Yes, I know this shouldn’t be such a big deal- kids get glasses but Andrew isn’t a typical kid. Andrew is high functioning autistic and if it’s going to happen, it happens to Andrew. He has asthma, a sensory disorder, a skin disorder and now he needs glasses. I pushed off his eye exam as long as I could but finally we made the appointment with a local optometrist.  The eye exam went well, with some redirection and patience the eye doctor was able to complete a thorough exam and confirmed-yep he needs glasses. According to the Vision Council, an eye exam is important for all children and should not be confused with the eye screenings that often occur at school. These screenings, while important, cannot provide the same level of eye care and diagnosis that a comprehensive eye exam can.

I had such reservations about getting him glasses for two reasons, the first being I knew the glare from the lenses was going to really distract him and cause him not to want to wear the glasses and the second being I didn’t think he was going to like wearing the glasses. We tried on a few different pairs and settled on a pair of blue glasses and I chose the Crizal® Prevencia™ Kids lenses. “How cool mommy just like my shoes will these make me see faster?” he exclaimed! “Phew” I thought, we are off to a good start. Within a week the glasses were ready. We picked up his new glasses with the Crizal for Kids lenses on a Wednesday and by the next day they were second nature to him. No complaints with wearing them at home but the true test came over 4th of July. Outdoors running around in the sun, I had a feeling he was going to throw them off. I know personally, the sun glare on my glasses drives me nuts! It puts such a strain on my eyes and gives me a headache. I waited and waited, but he never complained. Of course I know not to ask because the power of suggestion is a powerful thing so indirectly I asked him how he liked playing with the glasses on. He said they were great and he was happy to see where the ball landed when he threw it. I asked if anything bothered him and he said “Nope, mommy, they are great. I am so happy I can see!”

In typical mommy fashion I had to check this out first hand so the next day we were out and I had to try them on myself. Reluctantly he let me wear them, asking me not to break them. I was surprised! No glare and they almost seemed more natural and softer. I didn’t get that beaming feeling of bright light in my face! So I immediately looked up to see if I can get the Crizal lenses for me. Crizal is the first No-Glare brand to be granted the Good Housekeeping seal. The Good Housekeeping Seal has been reassuring consumers about their product purchasing decisions for over 100 years and is one of the most recognized consumer emblems in the market today. We chose the Crizal® Prevencia™ Kids lenses, however there is also the Crizal® Kids UV™ lenses which offer 25 times more UV protection than going without eyewear. We chose the Prevencia™ because in also protects from harmful Blue-Violet light. We are really happy with our choice of going with the Crizal lenses. I don’t have to worry about damage from UV light or irritation, eye strain, discomfort, and damage to the eyes from bright lights.
